At the beginning of the last month I was informed that there is is a event being organised by the Navy and that we should give names and emails of 4 of our members by the next day.

I had to tell the person who rang me to say that I cannot do that as I have to find out if 4 members who are interested in giving their email address, I did not respond to the caller and he did not come back.

Then I got another email from the Navy department to say the a get together of all the Sikhs in Wales is being organised by the Navy on the 25th October and that I am invited, I did not take too much interest in the email and left it as it came, then some one else told me about it and I said OK I will go to it my self and my wife, but then few of our members complained to say why should we go there and agreed how wonderful our armed forces.

They have not done anything for the Sikh who gave their lives for the British, they said that member of the polish community who gave their lives for Britain are recognised on a bollard in front of the city hall. Many year ago I and my family was invited to the Army barracks and I said this to them that they should erect some thing in the memories of the Sikh who gave their lives and I was told that they will look in to it but nothing happened.

Now this event came up and I saw that many cities have put up some kind of memorial in their city to acknowledge the lives of the Sikhs there is a garden set up in Bristol, memorial in Coventry, Nottingham Leicester and in many of the other cities.

So I wrote back to cancelled my visit and pointed out that if the arm forces are looking for the right representatives then they should go to the 4 Gurdwara’s in Wales and talk with their bodies and see if they like to would wish to sign.To sign the covenant but before they did that they should erect a memorial to remember the Sikh Solder who gave their live in the two wars serving in Army, Navy and Air force.

Like our city all of the cities where Sikhs are living should put forward the idea to the arm forces that we are all looking for some kind for memorial of our Sikhs , it is very important that we do that as lots of the Sikhs who are here in UK their for fathers gave their lives for British. I had to write an email and did send it to the people who were organising it and unfortunately the event has got cancelled ,we all know the arm forces are doing a good job here in UK but what about our Sikhs, I am going to be looking forward to that day when the arm forces recognised Sikh, their forefathers of the Sikh who are settled in Wales and have made Wales their own homes.
