Friendship & Practical Help
Look very carefully in your town or the city to see in any one is there like the old couple living on their own. I know we are always depended on our children, but there might be a couple who has not got that resource?
Our Gurdwaras are not just a place of worship but for some they have become social cultural and religious centre. So as the management committee the chairman also have role to look after all of his community especially single old or a couple.
I once went to see one of my uncle Ji who was being looked after by his grand son, and he just had a single bed by his pillow, next to his bed he had a glass table and it was full of tablets and I asked him uncle Ji do you take all of them and he just nodded!
We must go and see them to see if they need any help, with going to the hospital appointments they seem to get scared from buses go and see what sort of medicine they are taking.
We need to see if they are getting the right kind of benefits; are they on pension? Maybe they should be on pension credit? What sort of council tax they are paying? Are they getting winter fuel as some people can get up to £300 just for the winter.
When people get old they cannot cut their toe nails, they ask their doctors to refer them to toe nail cutting clinic.
Is there a welfare right worker within our community reach there are lots of help can be got at only if they know and this is where our Gurdwara does come in and should be able to help?
It’s may be that an old couple does not come to the Gurdwara because their are no straight buses to the Gurdwara a volunteer can be sent to pick them up and be dropped off by some one else.
I use to give advice and information from a community centre on anything and everything for 11 years. Even immigration.
